Pulasky Skyway, completed in 1931: LF Driscoll’s first project
Early Years
LF Driscoll’s commitment to excellence began when founded by Leon F. Driscoll in 1929. He began his company under the cloud of the Great Depression, a time when reputation was paramount and perseverance was the only lasting measurement of success. The young company built this reputation through old-fashioned hard work and dedication that remains at the core of the company today.
Better times came to Philadelphia in the 1940s and 1950s. LF Driscoll prospered during the long awaited economic expansion and was recognized as a respected and capable general contractor. At this time, Edward Driscoll, Leon Driscoll’s son, returned from his service in the U.S. Navy and joined the firm, bringing his own optimistic vision for the company’s future.
Construction Management
That future was bright. Ed Driscoll was aware of new trends sweeping the nation and prepared the company for what lay ahead. He predicted that construction management would emerge as the favored delivery system for large-scale projects, a vision that was realized in the 1960s and 1970s. LF Driscoll became a forerunner in this new approach and soon launched its reputation into the top tier of construction management firms in the Philadelphia area.
Continuous Growth
In the 1990s, there was an employee purchase of the firm from the Driscoll family, led by Jack Donnelly. Under his leadership, LF Driscoll emerged as the premier builder in the region and was winning annual recognition by Engineering-News Record magazine as one of the “Nation’s Top 100 Construction Managers At-Risk.” The company’s success has shown in the additions it has made to the city of Philadelphia and beyond. Some of these notable projects include The Comcast Center, the city’s premiere and most distinctive high rise; cutting edge facilities for the University of Pennsylvania Health System and The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia; luxury residential projects such as 1706 Rittenhouse and the Residences at the Ritz-Carlton; world class sports arenas such as the Wells Fargo Center and Citizens Bank Park; and cultural landmarks such as the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts and the Barnes Museum.
Today’s Success
In order to strengthen its long term goals and enhance the ability to meet client needs, LF Driscoll merged with the Structure Tone Organization in 2009. This merger enhanced an already strong financial capacity and expanded the geographic reach through an expansive established network of 19 Structure Tone offices. Like LF Driscoll, Structure Tone’s growth has stemmed from its strong reputation for understanding and satisfying client needs with technical expertise and commitment to excellence. Over the past 40 years, the Structure Tone organization has become a preeminent full-service construction management firm in the US and worldwide, putting in place over $4B in construction value annually. Our organization offers a complete scope of services ranging from site selection and development, to full preconstruction services, to new interior and out-of-the-ground construction, to major building infrastructure upgrades and modernizations.
