ATK Aerospace
The ATK Aircraft Commercial Center of Excellence is a state-of-the-art facility serving as the headquarters for ATK’s commercial aircraft programs. The primary usage of the facility is to manufacture engine components and airframes for commercial airliners, as well as GE and Rolls-Royce engine programs.
Layton carefully constructed the schedule and phasing plan for this structure that once served as a food processing and manufacturing/storage facility. The plan was then integrated with the owner’s schedule of designing and building the proprietary equipment and automated systems needed for this specialized process. Spacious open areas are required for this type of manufacturing, so accommodations were made for the several sizeable pieces of equipment needed, including large diameter autoclaves and robotic assembly areas.
Despite the tight window, recurring changes, and high-visibility of the project, the team completed it on schedule. Many of the processes used are now being implemented within other divisions of ATK.
Key Features:
- Large autoclaves
- Robotic assembly areas
- Superflat floors
- Clean rooms
- Specialized proprietary equipment
