MoMA Design Store
The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York is known for its collection of the world’s finest modern and contemporary art. As an extension of MoMA’s educational mission, the MoMA Design Store exemplifies inspiration and innovation with products highlighting the latest material, production and design concepts. Our team oversaw modifications and upgrades to the store’s retail space, back of house offices, mezzanine areas and infrastructure system. The renovation – designed to make the store more open and light-filled – included re-imagined display areas, expanded storage rooms, and mezzanine cladding.
Following the architect’s design concept, our team constructed the space to encourage visitor circulation and enjoyment. We arranged the merchandise display systems using reconfigurable units, including floating storage shelves, glass focus boxes and freestanding plexiglass cases. We also installed a custom jewelry counter, made with glass and bead blasted steel, and angled feature walls, flanked with frameless glazing, that surround the store’s central aisle. These elements present a unified approach across the shop floor and redirect customer sight and flow towards the most important items.
