Spotlighting Historic Palace Theatre Lift
TSX Broadway: Raising History in Times Square

NEW YORK, NY (February 15, 2023) – As early as 2017, all eyes in New York City real estate have been locked on the building at 1568 Broadway—one of the most heavily trafficked corners in the world and the site of the TSX Broadway development. In a new podcast, members of the TSX team discuss the challenges and once-in-a-lifetime stories of a key component of the project: lifting the historic Palace Theatre.
Guided by the vision of L&L Holding Company, Maefield Development, Fortress Investment Group, and The Nederlander Organization, some of the brightest minds in design, construction, and engineering have been working together to transform TSX Broadway into an unprecedented, entertainment-driven destination that—when complete—will redefine how people engage with Times Square.
Leading the design and construction of this ambitious project are design firm Mancini DuffyGo to https://www.manciniduffy.com/ and construction management firm Pavarini McGovern, an STO Building Group company. With the support of the many skilled partners and consultants involved, the project team reached an incredible milestone in 2022—successfully elevating the Palace Theatre 30 feet without compromising the NYC landmark’s historic interior.
To commemorate this iconic theater lift, Christian Giordano, President & Co-owner of Mancini and host of The Anti-Architect PodcastGo to https://theantiarchitect.com/, teamed up with Jason Vesuvio, Vice President of Pavarini McGovern and first-time host of the Building Conversations PodcastGo to https://stobuildinggroup.com/stobg-podcast/, to reflect on this monumental achievement with a handful of the visionaries who made the engineering feat a success.
“Lifting a 109-year-old, 14-million-pound theater 30 feet in the air is virtually unheard of. The fact that the project site sits in the heart of Times Square is another unbelievable challenge,” says Vesuvio. “This podcast is about the full project team—through the stories of a few key people—that pulled off the impossible. It was an honor hearing more about the process and their experiences.”
Featuring insights from Bill Mandara Jr., CEO and Co-owner of Mancini, Tony Mazzo, President of Urban Foundation/Engineering, Benjamin Alper, Associate Principal of Severud Associates, and Joe Levi, Project Manager at Pavarini McGovern, and co-hosted by Christian and Jason, this episode covers the who, what, when, and why of the TSX Broadway theater lift, as well as what’s next for the team as construction continues.
“In our firm’s 100+-year-old history, TSX Broadway is the most iconic project we’ve ever worked on – truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” says Giordano. “It was an honor spotlighting some of our incredible partners on this complex project on the busiest corner in the Northern Hemisphere – truly a team effort to pull this off.”
