CornellCookson
CornellCookson’s commercial rolling doors are specified by more architects than any other rolling door manufacturer in the country. To meet their growing needs, they teamed with Layton to construct a new production facility in Goodyear.
The facility sits on a 14.5-acre site—a former vacant lot—that offers significant room for future expansion. The site includes CornellCookson’s regional headquarters, which covers over 21,000 square feet, as well as an interior landscaped courtyard with fountains and tables for employee breaks. The courtyard also serves to allow abundant natural light in the building—alongside exterior glazing throughout. As further means to reduce energy usage, LED lights are used inside the facility.
The remainder of the site is dedicated to manufacturing. The manufacturing area includes 18 bridge cranes to improve productivity and movement of materials to the various pieces of equipment. To eliminate congestion and improve safety, employee and visitor traffic is separated from truck traffic at the facility. Moreover, the design accommodates parking for 281 automobiles, employee shift changes, and as mentioned, future expansion.
While the space serves as a functional manufacturing facility, it’s ultimately a high-performance building that reflects the quality and craftsmanship of the CornellCookson products within. This was achieved through unique elements including wood grain concrete forms, polished concrete, daylight/outside views, water harvesting, and indigenous landscaping.
