When NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital decided to upgrade their compounding pharmacy to meet the updated USP797 Pharmaceutical Compounding – Sterile Preparations and USP800 Hazardous Drugs standards, the challenge for our LF Driscoll team was building a plan that would allow the pharmacy to continue operating during construction. The project involved installing new robotic compounding equipment, replacing the current robotic packaging equipment with new equipment, updating delivery systems, and installing a new rooftop AHU.
Construction was spread across a few locations. In the East Pavilion, the new compounding facility was being installed. In the basement, the delivery and distribution systems were being upgraded and replaced. Then on the second floor of the Carrington Pavilion, the team constructed an area with new robotics for drug distribution.
The work was staged over two-phases and included constructing a new compounding pharmacy while maintaining operations of the existing pharmacy. While the new facility was being built, LFD created a temporary pharmacy trailer to function as the non-hazardous and hazardous compounding facility while renovation was underway. When that was complete, the team relocated pharmacy operations back into the newly constructed space.
