Nye County Jail
The Nye County Jail was constructed on the same block as the existing courthouse, jail, county offices, and animal control services. With the exception of the housing area, which is two levels, the building spans a single level and is mainly comprised of concrete and CMU.
The facility includes a food service area, laundry, administration, intake, property storage and records, visitation and housing units. The cells for the jail were manufactured off site and brought in by rail and truck. The completed facility currently houses 225 inmate beds, with a future expansion expected to total 448 inmates.
This project serves as an example of Layton’s ability to pull together and partner with local and national subcontractors in remote construction sites with limited subcontractor services and housing. Major subcontractors were selected from Nebraska, Colorado, North Dakota, Utah, Idaho and Wyoming.
