BCCI was hired by international engineering company Thornton Tomasetti to build an open and collaborative workspace focused on sustainable building for its new Bay Area office. The project was part of a select group to beta test USGBC LEED version 4 for commercial interiors. Relocating from Oakland to San Francisco, the new downtown location was carefully selected in order to comply with new LEED v4 requirements, providing easy access to public transportation and daylighting with windows on all sides of the building. Using an integrative approach, BCCI worked closely with the architect to select safe building products and materials creating a healthy environment not only for the finished space, but throughout the construction process. The end result is a dynamic and innovative workspace featuring reclaimed materials, such as a reception desk made from bowling lane hardwoods, and individual meters for large energy consumers to measure and improve energy efficiency in the new office. The groundbreaking project was awarded LEED v4 Platinum certification, the first commercial interiors project to achieve v4 certification at the Platinum level in the United States and the largest project to date worldwide.
