Yuma County Detention Center Annex
Completed in a rural part of Arizona, the Yuma County Detention Annex included an expansion to an operating correctional facility for juveniles convicted of adult offenses. This expansion consisted of 81 cells, a prisoner tunnel, a single master control room, a tunnel complex, an underground parking facility, a warehouse facility, and administrative offices. The scope of work also included a basement configured for future shooting range, secure enclosure for evidence lock-up, recreation enclosure for inmates, and maintenance equipment storage space.
The two-story building included a basement and is fully enclosed with provisions for future vehicle maintenance shop and impound lot. The underground complex connects the annex building to the existing jail through a tunnel under 3rd Avenue. This tunnel allows the sheriff’s office to securely move inmates between the jail, annex, and the Yuma County Justice Center without interaction with general public.
Layton Construction completed the Yuma County Detention Annex one month early and under budget.
