Axalta Coating Systems
Structure Tone provided construction management services for the interior fit-out of 35,000sf over three floors for the international durable coatings firm Axalta Coating Systems, formerly Dupont Performance Coatings, for the company’s new global headquarters in Philadelphia, PA.
We worked on floors 35 through half of 37, meeting an aggressive 12-week schedule without interrupting daily operations in a fully functioning, occupied building populated with tenants above and below the construction floors. To accommodate building occupants, we performed all noisy work off-hours to reduce its impact, and closely communicated heavy-load delivery schedules in advance with the building management and tenants.
The space includes a focal piece that showcases a two-story wall with custom Axalta Coating metal panels alongside an interconnecting structural staircase and a glass stair rail that connects the 35th and 36th floors. Additionally, we fitted out a boardroom, executive offices, conference rooms, huddle rooms, workstations, reception lobby and IDF/MDF closets. We furnished the 35th and 36th floors with high-end millwork as well as decorative glass and marble tile flooring. Wood wall paneling was installed in the main reception lobby, boardroom and the 35th floor conference room.
The critical schedule we maintained for project completion was challenged by the late arrival of the mechanical Fan Terminal Unit (FTU) boxes and accent lighting fixtures for the lobby. To keep the project on track, our team worked around the clock to place the FTU boxes and make the duct connections. We also installed a temporary hard ceiling off the scaffold that was built over the new staircase until the fixtures arrived.
Our on-time and on-budget performance enabled the company staff to relocate to the new Philadelphia headquarters from Wilmington, DE, on schedule.
