Aungierstown Substation
The Aungierstown Substation is a 110kV, 80MVa, Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) facility located in Grange Castle Business Park, Dublin 22. Designed and built by STO Mission Critical in Dublin, this strategic infrastructure development includes a two-storey GIS building, two 80 MVA transformers, lighting and lightning masts, car parking underground ducting services and roads within a 2.6m-high fenced compound. Two transmission lines connect the Aungierstown 110kV Substation to the existing 220kV Castlebaggot Substation to the immediate northeast. Due to the density of services within the existing ground, the team used horizontal directional drilling (HDD) for the transmission line crossing. STO Mission Critical was responsible for all commissioning and QA/QC, ultimately successfully handing the building over to a national utility company as a grid asset.
