Eataly
After ringing in its much anticipated grand opening in November 2019 at 55 Bloor Street in Toronto, Eataly is the largest Italian marketplace in the world. The concept is a hybrid supermarket-restaurant and is comprised of various restaurants, food vendors, and bakeries.
Founded in 2007 by Italian businessman Oscar Farinettie, the Toronto location is the first in Canada. This complicated project required a large reconfiguration of space in the Manulife Centre. Govan Brown had been engaged for over two years in preconstruction as this project, factoring in some of the most complex M&E scopes to be integrated with the premium finishes and functional layout of the space. The project included an in-situ build of temporary retail spaces to accommodate the new Eataly space.
The schedule, including the temporary retail spaces, was comprised of six phases which took into account the extremely complex nature of hoarding and path-finding for high traffic and public areas, including retail, public transit, and corporate space. As such, this project required significant city planning and logistics in order to be compliant with local laws and the Ministry of Labour. In total, the Eataly space includes 55,000sf while the back-to-base and temporary space is another 60,000sf.
