The Stayton Room at The Lexington Hotel
The Lexington Hotel bar—The Stayton Room—pays homage to former U.S. Navy Captain William Stayton who founded the Association Against the Prohibition Amendment in 1918. Stayton was widely recognized as a key leader in the fight against Prohibition, and The Stayton Room embodies the spirit of the “Roaring Twenties.” Conveniently located on East 48th Street and situated adjacent to the hotel’s lobby, The Stayton Room invites guests to step back in time to a world of Art Deco luxury, featuring dark wood, plush sofas, and intimate lighting.
Our team demolished the existing bar and managed construction of the new bar. We oversaw the installation of all bar-related elements, including new floor drains, food service equipment, plumbing, security screens, signage/decals, and a new partition and drink rail. We also refurbished the paint, millwork, and other finishes, and installed furniture such as communal tables and high-top stools. In terms of keeping the space safe, we installed new exit signs, relocated fire alarm devices, upgraded mechanical systems, and fitted existing sprinkler heads with new black caps. Our team also added a second stair to access the lower lounge and furnished a new railing on the existing stairs.
Inspired by the original scalloped crown molding throughout the hotel, the centerpiece of The Stayton Room is its bar, with a light fixture that arches across the rosewood tambour-backdrop and a Rosa Fiorentino granite, wrap-around countertop. Also adding to The Stayton Room’s ambiance is the extensive lighting package. Copper sconces dot the walls and columns, while geometric brass and orb pendants hang above the entrance.
On the exterior, we demolished the existing façade and installed new revolving doors with tile, metal cladding, and a glass enclosure. We replaced the awnings, signage, and windows while also cleaning and polishing the existing metal fascia.
