Shaw Contract
Inspired by their creative and durable carpet and flooring products, Shaw Contract enlisted Structure Tone to manage the construction of their sales office and showroom space at 853 Broadway, located above Manhattan’s historic Union Square neighborhood.
As a global design leader, Shaw’s New York City showroom reflects the company belief that innovative design can change the way we live, work, think and create. The finished space is an open-air design with high-end finishes and consists of a private office, communal workstations, breakout areas and a café/pantry with a bar and dining table. The pantry features a chalkboard wall for message writing and a TV mounted on a wooden accent wall. Specialty light fixtures add uniqueness to the space.
The main showroom area is lined with glass display cases, wooden bookshelves full of reference materials and racks of carpet samples. Customized finishes, engineered for both beauty and sustainability, include millwork, granite, polished concrete floors, exposed brick walls, glass office fronts and a sliding barn door at the entrance.
Logistics proved tricky, as Union Square is bustling with taxis, pedestrians and street vendors. We managed working in the busy area by providing logistics plans detailing site security; access for construction deliveries and personnel; traffic flow around the site; and construction staging and storage zones. Keeping the logistics plan updated and accurate throughout the project resulted in our team overseeing an efficient work site, allowing the subcontractors to complete the project on time and to the client’s satisfaction.
