West Valley City Police Department
Layton provided both preconstruction and construction services for West Valley’s new, ground-up police headquarters. As the second largest city in Utah, West Valley’s expanding police force required a larger facility that met their spatial and technology needs, as well as the needs of the growing community.
Spanning 66,000 square feet over 3 stories, the headquarters has blast-proof features with the latest security systems and ballistic glazing throughout. It accommodates numerous functions and divisions and combines them into one area, including detectives, evidence, forensics, traffic, patrol, community policing, and other services that work together more efficiently in one facility. The facility also incorporates significant sustainable features, including environmentally friendly materials and HVAC systems.
The state-of-the-art facility includes a holding cell, sally port, certified forensics lab, evidence storage facility meeting the latest police and FBI standards, and an intelligence room. Additionally, the building features a large community room for public meetings, educational programs, and media reporting, as well as large open office space, a gym, locker rooms, and shooting range. From a security standpoint, the facility features up-to-date systems.
As part of a mixed-use development, the project team was tasked with tying-in the facility with existing structures. Layton successfully completed the project with a perfect safety record.
