In 2007, Structure Tone expertly managed the phased interior build-out of Moody’s 15-floor, 670,000sf headquarters. The global business and financial services firm recently underwent a 42,000sf renovation on the 52nd floor to create a new hybrid workplace for its employees. Flexibility was the goal and the fit-out scope included multiple open and enclosed collaboration spaces, operable partitions, a pantry, a coffee bar, and a food service prep area.
The use of modular furniture and pavilions throughout the space offer different scenarios and areas for staff to interact. The project featured a sophisticated blend of finishes, including wood floors, carpet, and sheet vinyl materials. Notable design elements included millwork detailed partitions, metal pan ceilings, and Caesarstone countertops, complemented by specialty light fixtures, acrylic rods suspended from the ceiling, and felt-covered walls. The design embraced an open ceiling concept with exposed mechanical work and painted ductwork.
Despite a generally reasonable schedule, the team was able to work through additional design changes and extended material lead times and bring this striking project to successful completion. Basic value engineering was applied, particularly to accommodate additional steel support needed for the design load of the public assembly space on the floor below. There was also minor work completed on floors 50-51 which consisted of converting 13 private offices into collaborative meeting spaces and upgraded A/V technology.
Efforts were made to adhere to best practice LEED standards to ensure compliance with building regulations. Sustainability and wellness were integrated using recycled materials and FSC-certified wood and access to natural light and biophilic elements. The project’s innovative design earned it notable acclaim and recommendations for awards.
