The Marriott NY EDITION Hotel project involved the conversion and extensive interior and exterior renovation of the former 41-story MetLife landmark office building, also known as the Clocktower, into a new branded boutique hotel. The 250,000sf conversion project achieved LEED® Silver certification. The project was designed by a team of architects led by the Ian Schrager Company. The Rockwell Group was the interior designer and the architect-of-record was AAI Architects, PC.

Marriott New York EDITION Hotel
Preconstruction on the new Marriott NY EDITION Hotel extended over an 18-month period. The project was separated into three phases based on the scope of work. The first phase of the project included the exterior restoration. This involved the cleaning and replacement in some areas, of the existing limestone. The interior lobby renovation was the second phase of the project and began almost simultaneously with phase one. In addition to the high-end renovation, the client also requested the egress location to be changed and a two-story sky lobby area be created. The final phase of the project consisted of extensive high-end interior renovation, including detailed millwork, plaster walls and ceilings and marble floors. This work also encompassed the construction of a conference center, executive dining area and auditorium.
The interior build-out encompassed 273 hotel rooms and suites. There were many high-end finishes throughout the space including custom millwork, marble and custom bathtubs and sinks from Malaysia. In addition to the build-out of the guestrooms, the interior construction included the intricate lobby, restaurant and conference center.
At the height of construction, Structure Tone utilized a 30-year veteran project manager supported by nine superintendents and trade force of over 320. Coordination between our team, the client, all consultants and subcontractors was imperative for the success of the project. Structure Tone and the project team were able to deliver a first-class, luxury lifestyle quality hotel to Marriott for their new EDITION brand. The hotel was delivered on-time and in accordance with the GMP.
