American Kennel Club
Situated on Park Avenue, the new office of the American Kennel Club (AKC) pivots the organization from a traditional environment into the 21st century with a refreshed workplace. AKC’s new headquarters links its rich heritage and vision through a juxtaposition of classical design elements and modern sensibilities. The office includes executive offices, workstations, huddle rooms, phone rooms, an MDF room, a mail room, copy/print room, 3 libraries and renovated bathrooms. Our team was instrumental in helping AKC navigate through the place of assembly and change of use filings. AKC won the IFMA Award for Excellence for the Design and Construction of a New Facility.
AKC’s Museum of the Dog also moved to 101 Park Avenue, marking the second time the office and museum share a location. More than 180 pieces of artwork from the collection of 2,500 pieces and half a dozen interactive digital exhibits line two floors. Our team installed interactive kiosks and fit-out a retail store, presentation spaces, activity areas and new restrooms. To serve the lower floors, we connected an IDF room plus supplemental units to the MDF on the fifth floor and installed a pre-action (sprinkler) system.
Technology plays a huge role in the exhibitions. Our team organized the installation of TV monitors, touchscreens and video displays. Visitors can log on to learn more about the exhibits and kids can download an app where Arty the dog guides them through the museum. The gallery also includes a “Find Your Match” kiosk that takes your photo and determines which AKC-registered dog breed you look like.
