Englewood Health
In order to expand into Hudson County, NJ, Englewood Health chose one of the fastest-growing markets in the state—Jersey City. Due to its ease of access and proximity to New York City, Jersey City is highly sought after by developers, businesses, and residents alike. Coupled with a prime location and a desire to meet the health and wellness needs of the Jersey City community, Englewood Health partnered with our firm to bring their vision of a healthcare one-stop-shop to life.
Phase one of the project—which included two floors of a walk-in urgent care center, orthopedic surgery practice, primary care, and multi-specialty medical and surgical practices—began in July 2021, a year comprised of constant material shortages and long lead times. Nevertheless, the project team was able to utilize their on-site space for storage so that when materials were available, vendors could ship directly to the site.
By working through those challenges together, our firm and Englewood Health were able to not only build trust but also develop chemistry, resulting in a smooth transition to phase two of the project. Phase two involved construction of another 28,000sf on the third floor dedicated to a specialized imaging and therapeutics center which offers technology for advanced diagnostic testing such as digital mammography, MRI, ultrasound, X-rays, and cardiovascular testing. This third-floor location did, however, pose some challenges with the heavy weight and vibration of the MRI equipment, which would normally be stationed on ground level. The project team was able to quickly resolve the concern by reinforcing the concrete underneath the MRI area and then installing the MRI equipment via crane, which takes careful logistical preparation.
The new facility is getting busier by the week as Englewood moves more services into the community. This new traffic allows our team to see how their efforts to plan and phase the project paid off.
