Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt
In 2007, the law firm of Osler Hoskin and Harcourt approached Govan Brown to build-out their space in Ottawa. The space, which comprised of 2 floors and 37,000 square feet, was located in the downtown core of the nation’s capital. It was vital for Govan Brown to implement creative construction strategies to satisfy the client’s budget and schedule. To accommodate the tight schedule of the OH&H project, Govan Brown provided preliminary and final construction budgets prior to tendering the project to multiple trade tenders. Furthermore, we began construction while less critical items were still in development, once completed they were brought on site and installed. This project also included many avant-garde design elements. For instance, the OH&H project was one of the first to incorporate Techzone ceilings. The unique function of Techzone ceilings are that they contain, lights, air diffusers and flexible sprinklers; all in a single tile. Other design features include drop-down projectors, smart energy-efficient lighting and extensive millwork. It is vitally important to any project that time is taken in the pre-construction phase to plan for potential roadblocks. Govan Brown takes pride in being able to identify obstacles well in advance and plan accordingly. In the Osler Hoskin and Harcourt project, planning was paramount for the space’s successful completion.
