City of St. Petersburg Police Department Headquarters
This New Public Safety Campus includes a main Administrative and Property Evidence building that is a three-story, 167,000sf structure built to 195 mph wind design criteria. This building houses the Property and Evidence Management Division, Forensics, Vice and Narcotics Property Unit, Mobile Field Force, Vehicle Evidence Processing, Tactical Apprehension Control, Public Access, Records, Uniform Services Bureau, Investigative Services Bureau, Administrative Services, the Communications Center which serves as the backup 911 center for Pinellas County, Office of the Chief, the Data Center for PO and ICS, the City’s Emergency Operations Center and other essential Police divisions.
The new Campus also includes a central energy plant, a 321-car, four-level structured parking facility, surface site parking, secured perimeter fencing and access control system. There are 1,450 photo voltaic panels on the roof of the parking garage which generate enough power to run the systems in the garage and one third of the building space.
The Administrative & Property & Evidence building, and the CEP was tilt-wall construction and the parking garage is an 84,000sf pre-cast concrete structure. The CEP houses chilled water-producing, high efficiency chillers, pumps, cooling towers and other mechanical equipment which will supply chilled water to the air handling units inside the main building. The facility is served by an emergency power system which includes three generators. The facility integrates leading edge technology, communication and AV systems.
I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the work that Ajax Building has done and is performing for the City of St. Petersburg. This firm is currently under contract with the City of St. Petersburg for two Construction Manager at Risk agreements for which they were selected competitively. The two projects are the $61 million St. Petersburg Police Headquarters and the $5.3 million St. Petersburg Police Training Facility/Firing Range. Both projects included preconstruction services which resulted in a Guaranteed Maximum Price proposal within the city’s budget for construction. During preconstruction services Ajax provided leadership and guidance assuring us that these projects were well coordinated and would be constructed on schedule. We are pleased with the services Ajax has provided to the City of St. Petersburg and look forward to successful completion of these critical facilities.”—Raul Quintana, City Architect
