American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP)
In response to an upcoming lease expiration, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) relocated their offices from 1900 Broadway to 250 West 57th Street. Structure Tone was selected by this non-profit, performing rights organization and membership association to provide general contracting services for their new headquarters. Comprised of more than 735,000 songwriters, composers and music publishers, ASCAP’s mission is to license and promote the music of their members and make it possible for them to be paid fairly when their music is performed publicly, live or over any media platform.
The project included the build-out of approximately 85,000sf of class “A” office space consisting of four floors (12-14 and 20), two outdoor terraces, and basement storage. The program consisted of amenity areas, reception areas, conference rooms, huddle rooms/phone booths, private and open offices, back-of-house spaces, pantries, cafés, and a catering kitchen. Focal points of the office are the interconnecting stair from floors 12-14, a 50-person boardroom, and a large performance/event public assembly space on the 20th floor. ASCAP’s branding and playful vibe can be found throughout the space, whether on a LED panel in the elevator lobby, a vinyl record display in the lounge, or a wall installation of hundreds of guitar picks.
Working with closely with TPG Architecture, our team carried out the design vision and preserved the strong legacy of the performance-rights organization as they made the transition to their new home. The project was a collaborative effort and has resulted in a truly unique workplace that celebrates the composers, authors, and publishers that ASCAP represents.
