Ambulatory Care facilities are a vital part of the healthcare system that serve patients who do not require overnight hospital stays, but that very feature is what makes a construction project so challenging. The team must work around a functioning facility with a high degree of daily foot traffic. Our LF Driscoll Healthcare team fast-tracked a renovation of the 3rd floor orthopedic suite at the Vanderbilt Clinic that was completed in 16 weeks while the area remained operational for patient care.

The renovation work included transforming the resource center into a combined family resource center with a new reception area with new millwork and a Radio Lollipop Broadcasting Center which needed new acoustical tiles, sheetrock soffits and new lighting fixtures to transform the space into a broadcast center for the kids.

Ongoing advancements in medicine and technology means medical facilities are constantly adapting—which, in turn, means completing construction projects in busy hospital environments. That was the case for this 12,000sf gut renovation of the fourth floor in a busy urban hospital, where communication and coordination were key. Above the project site resides the adolescent inpatient psychiatric wing. Below the project site is a fullly operating suite with operating rooms, post-op, and adjacent sterile areas. Our LF Driscoll Healthcare team worked closely with hospital staff to minimize disruption and employed flexible scheduling at night and on weekends to work around critical hospital functions.

When NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital decided to upgrade their compounding pharmacy to meet the updated USP797 Pharmaceutical Compounding – Sterile Preparations and USP800 Hazardous Drugs standards, the challenge for our LF Driscoll Healthcare team was building a plan that would allow the pharmacy to continue operating during construction. The project involved installing new robotic compounding equipment, replacing the current robotic packaging equipment with new equipment, updating delivery systems, and installing a new rooftop AHU.

The existing Emergency Department at The Brooklyn Hospital Center (TBHC) was built to serve 35,000 patients per year but had been treating nearly twice the number. In efforts to better serve the Brooklyn community, TBHC decided to renovate and expand the existing Emergency Department. Our LF Driscoll Healthcare team is currently providing construction management services for the major expansion to increase the capacity of the Emergency Department (ED) by nearly 50% to meet today’s benchmarks and facilitate clinical efficiencies and workflows.

Working in urban areas in New York is often complicated – buildings are old, basements are below street level and have multi-use storage areas, and utilities are buried in the street and not easily accessible. So when The Brooklyn Hospital Center decided to convert an existing commercial storefront into a new medical facility for urgent care, a primary care clinic and an imaging suite, our LF Driscoll Healthcare team managed all those issues to successfully turn this space over from its previous commercial use to a proper, functioning medical space.

The LFD Healthcare team has worked with The Brooklyn Hospital Center (TBHC) to complete several projects and help expand their footprint in the community. We were hired to manage the construction of the fitout of six floors (6-11) in a medical office building in downtown Brooklyn. This expansion was a critical project for TBHC and provides patients with the opportunity to meet their physicians in a non-emergency setting for medical visits and procedures.
