Charter Communications
When Charter Communications set out to relocate to their new headquarters in Stamford, they chose our firm to serve as their construction manager. Charter needed a space that would accommodate its growing team, while also anticipating future goals. Having successfully completed work on their previous space, our team got to work developing highly detailed logistics plans to ensure timely delivery of this project within the allotted schedule.
The project location at 400 Washington Boulevard is next to the Stamford MetroNorth and Amtrak Stations, making it easy to travel to and from the office. The scope included office space, an atrium lobby, elevator lobbies, reception areas, a main conference center, two-story food hall, and fitness center with juice bar. The 1,000-person capacity is facilitated by 5 connecting stairs. Lighting on this project was a huge undertaking with over 5,000 lights, all LED, with a Crestron system. The data center was supported by 28 IDFS, one MDF, and a full building generator with remote radiator and load bank.
Creating multiple locations for food services meant easy accessibility and better options for building tenants and employees. Our team built pantries throughout all floors, along with a state-of-the-art cafeteria with terrazzo floors and a detailed wood ceiling with wood beams. A “Grab-N-Go” provides an additional food service area. The executive floor includes various custom finishes, such as marble, ceramic tile, wall coverings, and paint, while the lobby includes stone imported from Turkey. We also completed work on parking areas, specifically the P1 area for the back of house staff.
One main challenge during the project was operating throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. Using our company developed procedures, our team and subcontractors on site were able to work without major delays or restrictions. Staggering start times, using a Covid check in, and requiring temperature checks meant that all those on site were kept safe and were enabled to continue with the project schedule.
Ultimately, the new headquarters provides Charter employees with the space and amenities necessary to enhance their daily functions and workplace environment, encouraging synergy and collaboration. It also serves as a welcoming point for visitors.
