Morristown-Beard School
After a four-month preconstruction phase, our team provided CM services for the expansion and renovation of Morristown-Beard School’s Morristown Campus. Specific components included a 21,000sf performing arts center and a 13,000sf expansion to the middle school.
Additional scope included interior and exterior renovations to an existing 10,000sf building, a new drainage system and new utilities as well as site improvements to roadways, plazas, landscape and underground infrastructure. All three facilities commenced construction simultaneously, while the school remained open.
Early in the design phase, our team played a major role in assisting the school with value engineering ideas to meet the school’s budget. By saving money and managing the budget during construction we were able to use contingency money to add a proscenium wall with wood paneling on the stage of the performing arts center, upgraded carpet, an upgraded staircase with marble floor borders, and added wood details to the entry staircase and balcony.
A major challenge our team faced was safety. In order to successfully complete the project without disrupting the ongoing campus activities, our team isolated the construction site with fencing, signage throughout the campus, and temporary roadways to divert traffic away from all construction activity. Critical work and deliveries were all coordinated around the school schedule in order to ensure safety and minimize disruption to school activities.
